West Virginia Madison Daily Herald 7 Feb 1913 CHARLES P. GARDEN The Venerable Ship-Carpenter, Died at Newcastle, Ind., Wednesday Morning. Charles P. Garden, aged eighty years, died at 6:30 o'clock yesterday morning at the home of his daughter, Miss Lizzie Garden, 1008 Broad street, after an illness lasting since New Year's. The deceased came to his death through the infirmities of old age. He leaves three children, the daughter residing in this city and a son in Wyoming, Ill., and another son in Groveland, Fla. He was also an uncle to Miss Charlotte Claflin, one of the teachers in the city schools. Relatives will leave Newcastle with the body at early hour Friday morning for Madison, Ind., the former home of the deceased, and the funeral will take place there at three o'clock on Friday afternoon. Interment will be in Madison. The deceased was born at Wheeling,W. Va., but lived most of his life at Madison, on the Ohio river, where he was a river ship carpenter up until ten years ago. He came to Newcastle to live last fall. —Newcastle Morning Star. The remains of Mr. Garden arrived here on the noon train today and funeral services were held this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the residence of Mr, and Mrs. John Richards, north Mulberry street. The burial was in Springdale cemetery.
