Bio

Mary Ann Micek, 86, of Columbus, died Monday, July 11, 2011, at the Papillion Manor in Papillion. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, in Columbus, with Rev. Mike Keating officiating. Interment will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. vigil, continuing 8-10 a.m. Friday, all at McKown Funeral Home. Mary Ann Micek, the daughter of Adolf and Gertrude (Liekhus) Ritzdorf, was born Nov. 3, 1924, in Cedar Rapids. She was raised in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Cedar Rapids High School in 1942. Mary Ann was united in marriage to Leonard Micek on June 27, 1944, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She was a homemaker and worked for Micek Auto Repair until 1972. In 1972, she began working for Region IV Services, where she worked for over 25 years. She was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, Legion of Mary, Christian Mothers, Perpetual Adoration and Secular Franciscans. Mary Ann enjoyed traveling and was devoted to her family and the Catholic faith. She is survived by her son, Jim (Judy) Micek, of Grasonville, Md.; daughter, Marilyn (Roger) Bettenhausen, of Columbus; daughter, Nancy (Al) Denzer, of Mission, Kan.; son, Dave (Cathy) Micek, of Lincoln; daughter, Joni (Steve) Knight, of LaVista; sister, Dorothy (Pat) Cox, of Seattle, Wash.; brother, Dick (Karma) Ritzdorf, of Schuyler; and sister, Gertrude Scarlato, of Kenosha, Wis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Micek; father, Adolf Ritzdorf; mother, Gertrude (Liekhus) Ritzdorf; great-granddaughter, Erin Bettenhausen; three sisters, Mildred Ritzdorf, Wilma Wlaschin and Marjorie Fenton; and three brothers, Gil Ritzdorf, Bob Ritzdorf and Adolph Ritzdorf, Jr. Memorials may be directed to St. Bonaventure Church or the Columbus Area Right to Life.
