Bio

Thanks to Contributor M. Jensen Seggerman, #47078678, for the following: Amelia Svec, daughter of Karel Laun and Marie Petracek, was born near Milligan January 12, 1890. She passed away at the Warren Memorial Hospital in Friend July 3, 1964, at the age of 74 years, 5 months and 21 days. The family lived in a sod house on the farm of John Kotas, later moving to a farm three miles east of Milligan. She attended rural school in saline County. April 21, 1908, she was united in marriage to Joseph Svec Jr. To this union was born two sons and three daughters. For 21 years they farmed three miles east of Milligan. May 29, 1929, they purchased a farm five miles north and one-half miles west of their home, where they lived until June, 1936, moving back to the first farm. December 3, 1945, they moved to Milligan where they lived together until June , 1958, when Mr. Svec passed away. She continued living in Milligan until her health failed her, when she made her home with her daughters. Mrs. Svec was a kind and loving mother and grandmother, always thinking of others before herself. Her greatest joy were her grandchildren, also working among her flowers and in her garden. She leaves to mourn her passing her two sons, Ernest of Milligan and Henry of Friend; three daughters, Anna (Mrs. Charles Zajic) of Friend, Irene (Mrs. Alfred Krupicka) and Ella Mae (Mrs. Leo Soukup), both of Exeter; eight grandchildren; one brother, Joseph K. Laun of Tobias; and one sister, Mrs. Rose Zajic of Crete. Preceding her in death were her husband in 1958, her parents and one infant brother. funeral services were conducted from the Milligan Auditorium Sunday, July 5, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Sherman Ragsdell of Exeter officiating. Mrs. Albert Kassik and Mrs. Albert Naimon sang "Kazdy Nese Svuj Kriz" in Czech and "Beyond the Sunset." A large number of relatives and friends attended the funeral and accompanied the body to the Bohemian National Cemetery where she was laid to rest beneath a beautiful blanket of floral tributes. Pallbearers were Leo Laun, Glen Hagemeier, Fred Schleis, Melvin Zajic, James Rut and Joseph Dvorak. The Nebraska Signal July 9, 1964 page 5.
