GIRARD PRESS Thursday, May 2, 1912 Jacob F. Kennedy Killed in Cave-In Wednesday afternoon of last week, Jacob F. Kennedy, an employee of the Foster Construction Co., who are constructing the system of sewers in Girard, met his death in a cave-in on Orange street in the southeast part of the city. He was working in the trench back of the ditcher when a large mound of dirt from the north bank caved in and covered him. Quick work was done in an attempt to rescue him, and after his head was uncovered oxygen was pumped in his lungs in an effort to sustain him until the great pressure was removed from his body, but in vain, as life was extinct when the dirt was finally taken off. Jacob Frederick Kennedy was born January 14, 1884 near Pittsburg, Kansas and died at Girard, April 24, 1912, aged 28 years, 3 months, and 10 days. He lived in this vicinity all of his life. He was married to Miss Hettie Kaiser of Hohawk, Oklahoma, March 24, 1909. From this union have been born two children, Opal and Johnny, who, along with the mother survive him. He leaves also to mourn his loss his father and mother, John and Minerva Kennedy, of Girard, and four sisters and one brother, as follows: Mrs. Lizzie Modlin, Pittsburg; Mrs. W.H. Roper, Girard; Mrs. George Moore, Boicourt; Mrs. W. E. Davis, Springfield, MO; and Louie Kennedy of Girard. The funeral took place Friday, Rev. Oliver C. Bronston officiating.
