Bio

W. L ."Bill" Cypert; age 88, of Bellaire, Texas died on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 after a long battle with prostate cancer. Bill was born in Hillsboro, Texas and graduated from Hillsboro High School and Massey Business College. Bill enlisted in the Navy after Pearl Harbor and reached the position of Chief. He served aboard the U.S.S. George E. Davis in the Pacific Theater during WW II and left the Navy in 1946. After the war, Bill met and married Mary Hoelcher of West, Texas. They moved to Houston, Texas in 1951, where Bill managed or owned a number of restaurants, including "Youngbloods" and "The Golden Drumstick." In the 1960's he was named as one of Houston's Top 10 Restaurateurs and was known to be the creator of "Texas Toast". In the later 60's Bill left the restaurant business and began a career in Houston real estate, eventually, becoming a broker and owner of Cypert Realty. After retirement, Bill enjoyed his almost daily visits to his small ranch near Fresno, Texas and his annual 3 week trips to Cancun, Mexico. One of Bill's sons; Larry Cypert, died in 2003. Visitation was held on Wednesday, November 29, 2006. Funeral service was held on Thursday, November 30, 2006 at the American Heritage Funeral Home. The interment followed in the Houston National Cemetery.
