Mildred Ruth Monroe September 1, 1919 - March 18, 2008 Mildred Ruth Monroe, 88, died on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 in Woodland, Calif. The youngest of 10 children, Mildred was born on September 1, 1919 in McKinney, Texas to L.S. and Mattie (Snider) Dennis. After high school, Mildred entered nurse's training at St. Paul's Hospital in Dallas, Texas and practiced as a registered nurse for over 45 years, mainly in the Medford area. She married her late husband, Lowell William "Bill" Monroe in 1945, and resided in the Rogue Valley for 58 years. Mrs. Monroe is survived by a son, Robert "Mal" Monroe and his wife, Aiyuna; sister, Alla Welch; grandsons, John and Jason Monroe; and several nieces and nephews. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Mrs. Monroe thoroughly enjoyed time spent with her grandsons, San Francisco Giants Baseball, playing games (especially Pinochle), and visiting with family and friends. For a number of years she attended Cornerstone Christian Church in Medford. She also found a great deal of pleasure taking part in a day program for seniors offered by Yolo County. Mildred's memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on April 12, 2008 at Cornerstone Christian Church, 608 N. Barlett St., Medford. Pastor Stan Way will officiate. Memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of the donor's choice. Published by Mail Tribune on Apr. 2, 2008.
