Bio

Gerry Alvin Kotrola, of Carbondale, Colo., died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at Heritage Park Care Center in Carbondale. He was 60. He was born June 27, 1942, in Kermit, Texas, to Alvin and Ruth Kotrola. Mr. Kotrola served in the U.S. Navy from 1964 to 1967. He married Nancy Batchin on Nov. 21, 1969. Mr. Kotrola was an electrician and a member of Local Union No. 520 in Texas, where he lived from 1970 to 1984. After moving to Carbondale, he worked for the Roaring Fork School District Re-1 for a short time, and then spent many years working at the Crystal River Fish Hatchery. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Kotrola, of Carbondale; son Gregg Kotrola, of New Mexico; brother Don Kotrola, of Round Rock, Texas; sister Edna Owens; aunt Dorothy Tierney, of Austin, Texas; and cousins, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, at the First United Methodist Church in Carbondale, 385 S. 2nd St., with the Rev Doug Self and Jim Johnson officiating. Farnum Holt Funeral Home of Glenwood Springs is in charge of arrangements. Post Independent November 15, 2002
