Jo Ruthart, 89, of Slabtown, our beautiful, sweet, talented, precious mother and grandmother has left us to go to Heaven on Monday, Oct. 13, 2008. We will all be together again one day. Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled graveside services for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 15, at Evergreen Cemetery. Jo, the daughter of William Phillip Ruthart and Mary Frances Moss, was born March 18, 1919, in Slabtown. She was left-handed and very artistic. She was a seamstress, made flags, was a costume maker and was a beautician in Dallas for 40 years where she owned and operated Capitan Beauty Shop, 1908 N. Henderson, Dallas. She married George Alvie Mathews on Nov. 24, 1937. In 1949, during the centennial of the gold rush, they lived in Oakland, CA. There she made her own costume and entered a beauty contest where she came in first. She was the best mother on earth and provided a home for us. She was from a large family which included her daughter, who was also her loving caregiver, grandson, her brothers, sisters-in-law, and special nephews, nieces, cousins, special friends, and Aunt, along with a plethora of great-nieces and great-nephews; the best doctor, who was kind and caring; special pastors.
