(Billy) Gerlich, 31-year-old native of West, passed away in Houston last Friday following an attack of double pneumonia. Mr. Gerlich had been ill only four days prior to his death in Jacinto City Hospital. He was an employee of Humble Oil and Refining Co. Funeral services were conducted at First Baptist Church, West, by Rev. Johnson of Houston, at 2 p.m. Monday. Burial was in Closner Cemetery. Mr. Gerlich was born the son of W.F. And Louise Gerlich in West on June 9, 1923. His father was an active cotton merchant and bank director here. Billy Gerlich was an outstanding and popular student at West High School and very active in band and Future Farmers of America programs before enlisting for two hitches in the Navy during World War II. Survivors are his widow, Edith Gerlich of Houston; a daughter, Eleanor Gerlich, four years old; a brother, R.W. Gerlich of San Angelo; a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Yezak of Beaumont. West relatives include Mrs. Guy Simpson of West, an aunt; Eugene Gerlich, Sr., an uncle; and Mrs. Lynn Harris, a cousin. Pallbearers were cousins, B.F. Itschner of Chicago, Edgar Hensel of Waco, John Charles Roth, Jr. of Waco, Alfred Poehyla of Fort Worth, J.C. Teat of Waco and Eugene Gerlich of Waco.
