Bio

Wilma Curtis Hardin, 83, a resident of Foley, Ala., and former resident of Florence, Ala., died Sunday, April 15, 2007. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at Elkins Funeral Home in Florence, Ala., with a graveside service following at the Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens Cemetery at 11:30 a.m., with the Rev. Larry Wright officiating. Wilma Hardin was born in Hardin County, Tenn., near Shiloh National Military Park. She graduated from Shiloh High School and Draughon Business College in Nashville, Tenn. Ms. Hardin moved to Florence, Ala., in 1943, and lived there for 58 years, and moved to Foley, Ala., in 2001. Since May 1944, she had been a member of Florence First Baptist Church. She loved her church family and especially the members of the Ruth Sunday School Class. Wilma retired from the Shoals Chamber of Commerce after more than 34 years of dedicated service. Upon her retirement, the late James E. Frost, mayor of the city of Florence, on behalf of the city council, proclaimed Tuesday, June 28, 1988, as Wilma Hardin Day in the city, a special day to honor her. Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Stanford Albert Hardin, her father, William Moses Curtis, mother, Ollie Lambert Curtis, sisters, Arie Curtis and Honar Curtis; and brother, Daniel Curtis. She is survived by a loving and caring family, including two nieces, Sue Curtis Phillips, of Foley, Ala., and Jane Curtis Carter, of Hiawassee, Ga.; three great-nieces; one great-nephew; three great-great-nieces; three great-great-nephews; and a wonderful sister-in-law of more than 70 years, Gertrude Curtis. The pallbearers for Ms. Hardin will be the deacons of First Baptist Church of Florence and honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Ruth Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church of Florence.
