Bio
He lived in Lamar County Texas for many years. First official record is of his marriage to Sarah. E. Carpenter in 1883. Several land deeds have not been checked out which may be him, but there appears to have been another J.S. Johnson/Johnston and also another Ernest and a Leslie. But the ones listed here are definitely correct. Book 132 page 36 Lamar Co. TX. Deed Records 20 September 1909 J.S. Johnson and wife Bettie, Ernest Johnson and wife Ara, Ed Horn and wife Mattie, Calvin Roden and wife Lillie, sold to T. B. Bryan 52 acres more or less for $2000. part of the McAneer Headright Survey, SW corner of McCullough line. Separate affidavits by each. J.S. and Bettie, Lamar Co. TX.; Ernest and Ara, Pushmatha Co. Ok.; Ed and Mattie, Hughes Co. Ok.; Calvin and Lillie, Tarrant Co. TX. Also signed by R.E. Mitchell Yeager, Ok. and W.H. Brogolon(?) Yeager, Ok. James Simpson Johnson and Sarah Elizabeth Carpenter had Ernest in 1884; Mattie Henrietta 1885 http://www.findagrave/com # 23658888 and Lillie Agnes 1887; Sarah died between 1887 and 1891 in Lamar Co., TX when he married Maribettie Hoover and they had Myrtle Ivy 1893 and Leslie 1894.
