Services for Benjamin Ewing O'Brien, former owner and publisher of the Celina Record, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Celina, Collin County. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery in Dallas. O'Brien died at the Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Plano on Tuesday. He was 79. He was born in Celina on Oct. 2, 1908, and graduated from Celina High School in 1925. He moved to Dallas in 1926 and worked for Rice Stix, a wholesale company. O'Brien married Lita Andrews in 1929. They moved to Gainesville, where he was assistant manager of a department store. In 1930, he started working for his father-in-law, C.C. Andrews, who owned and published the Celina Record. O'Brien and Andrews were the weekly newspaper's only staff for many years. O'Brien later bought the newspaper from Andrews. O'Brien worked with the newspaper for more than 40 years, selling it in the mid-1970s. He was a member of the Press Club of Dallas and the Texas Press Association, and was mayor of Celina and a volunteer for the Salvation Army. He is survived by a daughter, Pat O'Brien Hurt of Dallas, and one grandson, of Arlington, Va. Mrs. O'Brien died in 1984. Dallas Morning News, The (TX) Date: April 21, 1988
