Obituary: Taken from the Nemaha County Herald, Oct. 1999. Lois Etta Llewellyn, daughter of E.E. Llewellyn, Sr. and Henrietta L. (Taft) Llewellyn, was born Sept. 23, 1903 at Auburn, Ne. one of 13 children. Lois received her educatation at the rural Cochran School southeast of Auburn. July 2, 1920, she married Clarence Houtz of Verdson. two children were born. Shortly after their marriage, they made their home in Verdon and later moved to Auburn. She went to work for the local telephone company, Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph, for the next two years. April 17, 1953, she married George Kuper at Auburn, George died June 15, 1981. Lois had been a member of the First Christian Church in Auburn all of her life and remained active in the church for many years. She was a very accomplished quilt maker and won prize ribbons at the State Fiar. As her health declined, she was admitted to the Good Samaritan Center in Auburn, May 19, 1992, where sh died Oct. 15, 1999, having reached the age of 96 years and 22 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, son, H.Neal Houtz, grandson, Scott Houtz, step-grandson, Dan Meyer, seven brothers and two sisters. Surviving are her daughter, Lois Pike and husband Vernon of Auburn; daughter-in-law, Betty Houtz, St. Petersburg, FL; six grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; step-daughters, Maxine Meyer of Lincoln, Ellen Oestmann and husband Lester, Johnson and Helen Kuper, Auburn, four step-grandchildren, eight step great grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Biggerstaff, Auburn, Jenny Garrison and husband Milo, Charlottsville, VA. and Mildred Taylor of Hastings. other relatives and friends. Services were held Oct. 19 at the First Christian Church in Auburn, conducted by Rev. Frank Zimmerman. Pallbearers were Paul Oestmann, Dr. Ted Biggerstaff, Herb Lash, Ralph Oestmann, Grant Llewellyn and Ward Merritt, Jr. Donna Caspers was organist. Interment was in the Verdon Cemetery.
