T.J. Hunt was the son of T. J. Hunt Sr. and Delila A. Ellis. After migrating to Texas, he married his cousin, Mary Margaret Messer on the 6th of January, 1876, in Belton, Bell County, Texas. The couple had ten children together; Walter Lee, Nev Nettie, Wilbur, Lottie Elizabeth, Hattie Mae, George Prentice, Mary Arnie, Susan Helena, Dolly Dorthene, and Margaret Lorena. Military Service: He was a U.S. Army veteran having enlisted as a Private in the 5th Infantry Regiment, Company E at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas on January 5, 1873. Since he was assigned to the 5th Infantry Regiment during this time he likely participated in the Red River War from July 1874 to February 1875 against the Cheyenne, Kiowa, and Comanche indian tribes in the Indian Territory and Texas. He served under General Nelson A. Miles at Fort Supply, Indian Territory. During this time the famous Indian Chief Quanah Parker led the Comanche. Hunt deserted the Army on April 13, 1875 after the war ended and moved to Bell, Texas where he married Mary Margaret Messer on 5 January 1876. He worked as a farmer for the remainder of his life.
