Bio

Ethel Irene (West) Peters, age 82 of Ogallala, passed away on Sunday, May 29th at her home. Ethel was born October 5, 1928 at Ogallala, the daughter of Gordon Henry and Edith Mae (Schuler) West. She attended the Ogallala High School, graduating with the class of 1946. Ethel received her normal training to teach elementary school following her graduation. She married Clyde Peters in Saint Francis, Kansas on October 8, 1944 and together they raised seven children. Ethel kept the books for the family construction business until Clyde's retirement in 1996. Ethel was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Circle Three. She was a fifty-mile swim member at the Goodall Recreation Center and swam weekly until 2010. She was a regular blood donor at the Red Cross Bloodmobile. For nineteen years Clyde and Ethel spent summers at their cabin in Alaska and enjoyed fishing and visits from the kids. Ethel also enjoyed sewing and crocheting. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Carol Ness and her husband Ray and Cleo Westerbuhr and husband Dale; and her mother and father in law, Fred and Mary Peters. Survivors include her husband, Clyde Peters of Ogallala; children, Karon (Ron) Holscher of Ogallala, Sandra (Wendell) Mickelson of Cody, WY, Patsy (Dwayne) Mundorf of Omaha, NE, Myrna Spurgin of Paxton, Nora (Harold) Simpson of Aurora, CO, Lonnie (Marla) Peters of Ogallala, Susie (Sam) Peters of Yuma, CO; her sister, Erma (George) Umburger of Genoa, NE; and her sister in law, Milly Schwasinger of Ogallala; eighteen grandchildren and thirty six great grandchildren. Funeral services for Ethel Peters will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 4th at the Ogallala United Methodist Church with Pastor Chuck Rager officiating. Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery. A memorial has been established in her memory. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Friday at the Gubser Funeral Home and at the church prior to services on Saturday.
