Bio

Edward H. Iwansky, 87, of Columbus, died Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at the Papillion Manor. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Isidore Catholic Church, 3921 20th St., in Columbus, with the Rev. Joseph A. Miksch. Interment will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery, in Columbus, with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Thursday at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation continues from 7-8 p.m., Thursday, with an 8 p.m. vigil, and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday, all at the church. Edward H. Iwansky was born Jan. 12, 1924, in Howells, to Edward J. and Bessie (Suchan) Iwansky. The family moved to Lindsay in 1927. Ed graduated from Lindsay Holy Family High School in 1942. He entered the U.S. Marine Corp during World War II where he served in the South Pacific from 1942-1945. On Nov. 12, 1946, Ed married Gladys Cockson in Pilsno. Ed worked for Montgomery Wards and from 1981 until 1995 worked as a building inspector for the City of Columbus. He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church where he was an usher and a member of the Holy Name Society and recently moved to Omaha where he joined St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Ed also was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. Ed actively volunteered at Columbus Community Hospital, American Legion Club Bingo, and at St. Isidore Church. He was an avid Husker fan and loved watching his children's and grandchildren's activities. He is survived by his son, Gary Iwansky, of Omaha; son, Don Iwansky, of Omaha; son, Ron (Kristy) Iwansky, of Omaha; son, Roger (Karen) Iwansky, of Columbus; granddaughter, Shelley Iwansky, of Omaha; granddaughter, Betsy (Tyler) Adams, of Des Moines, Iowa; granddaughter, Nikki Iwansky, of Omaha; granddaughter, Natalie (Ben) Pearson, of Omaha; granddaughter, Angie Iwansky, of San Diego, Calif.; granddaughter, Amanda Iwansky, of Spirit Lake, Iowa; granddaughter, Andrea Iwansky, of Spirit Lake, Iowa; grandson, Ryan (Cassie) Iwansky, of Omaha; grandson, Brandon (Sarah) Iwansky, of Omaha; great-grandson, Sam Iwansky, of Omaha; great-granddaughter, Bella Iwansky, of Omaha; great-grandson, Jack Iwansky, of Omaha; great-grandson, Owen Pearson, of Omaha; great-grandson, Cooper Adams, of Des Moines, Iowa; sister, Elaine (Maynard) Geilenkirchen, of Lindsay; and sister, Dorothy (Jim) Dohmen, of Mechanicsville, Iowa. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gladys Iwansky; and sister, Lorraine Morgan. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the St. Isidore Building Fund.
