Obituarie Jacksonville Daily Progress Monday, May 13, 2002 Martha Thornton Services for Martha Thornton, 81, of Jacksonville will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in English Chapel at Big Sandy Church of Christ in Hawkins. Bro. Gene Loftin will officiate. Burial will be at Hawkins Cemetery. Mrs. Thornton died Friday in Jacksonville. She was born, Oct. 19, 1920, in Johntown. She was retired after 25 as an exercise technician. She was a homemaker and a member of the Big Sandy Church of Christ. She moved to Jacksonville in 2000. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Thornton in 1997;son Lt. Jerry Wayne Thornton; brothers, Wilson, Buster and Jack Scarborough; and sister, Nan Gibbs. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and John Kern of Jacksonville; son, Dale Thornton of Dallas; sister and brother-in-law, Billie and Ted Fleming of Tyler; sisters-in-law, Jean Scarborough of Mineola and Francis Scarborough of Houston; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Milton Soward, Max Archerd, Norman Strokes, Keith Stevens, Doug Kendall and Jim Slover.
