J. P. Oliver passed Saturday in Texas City. Born Nov. 10, 1912 in Alto Texas he had been a resident of Santa Fe since 1993 previously of Freeport where he retired from Dow Chemical Company after 37 years as a truck driver. J.P. was preceded in death by three sisters, May Day, Ora Chandler and Willie Williams. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Lela Oliver; sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond and Kay Oliver of Santa Fe, Jerry and Kathy Oliver of Santa Fe; and John Paul and Tonya Oliver of Crosby; daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Dennis Craig of Santa Fe; brother and sister-in-law, Mart and Hazel Oliver of Jacksonville; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 9:00 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home with Mr. Doug McKenzie officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Berry Cemetery in Lufkin, Texas. Pallbearers will be Timothy Thomas, Trace Oliver, Bobby Griggs, Kenny Longino, Dan Hoot, Dennis Craig, Fred Evans, Lloyd Day, Virgil Day, Garth Oliver and Steve Chandler.
