Berry Columbus "Lum" Barganier B. C. Barganier Dies After Lengthy Illness Greenville Advocate, June 24, 1949 Berry Columbus Barganier, 78, passed away late Saturday in a Birmingham hospital, after an illness of several months. He was born April 16, 1871, the son of the late Lawson B. and Irene Jeter Barganier. He spent his boyhood and early manhood in Lowndes County and was married to Effie Pearl Heaton, October 8, 1893. He was a member of the Fort Deposit Church of Christ. Mr. Barganier moved to Butler County in 1905, where he has been a well-known farmer and a prominent citizen, having served in the Commissioners Court for twelve consecutive years, from 1925 to 1937. Surviving are his five children: Mrs. Eula Autrey, Brooks C. Barganier, Mrs. Kathleen B. Sanders, Mrs. R. E. Childs, of Greenville, and Charles L. Barganier, of Seattle, Wash.; a sister, Mrs. Walter Dyas, of Loxley, Ala.; two brothers, Rex Barganier, of Fort Deposit, and John Barganier, of Pensacola, Fla.; twenty-four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held in the home at 11:00 Monday morning, May 30th, with the burial at Fort Dale cemetery, Rev. Harry E. Rogers officiating. Pallbearers were close neighbors: Perry J. Avant, Eric O. Cates, Orby Harrison, Carl Parmer, Irby Hinson, and Lamar McQueen.
