Bio

The husband of Alice Roberts Riden. Obituary published in Claiborne Parish Trails (1996, No.4) from an undated newspaper clipping found in the estate of Kermit Knighton of Gibsland in 1975: J.T. Riden, died about six o'clock Saturday afternoon as the result of a heart seizure at his home at the age of 79 years. He was a native of Buford, Georgia, a Confederate veteran, having entered the service in defense of the South when a lad of 16. He had been a resident of Gibsland, La. for several years, moving here from Texas, and was one of the deacons of the Gibsland Baptist church. Services were Monday morning at the Baptist church with Rev. J.C. Cox, pastor, conducting. Interment in the Gibsland, La. cemetery. Survived by his widow, Miss Eva; four sons, H.S. Riden of Dallas, Texas, F.B. Riden of Waxahachie, Texas, G.G. Riden of Ashland, Texas, and J.N. Riden of Gibsland, La.; two daughters, Mrs. W.H. Simmons of Ashland, Texas and Miss Iva Riden of Gibsland, La; one sister, Mrs. Lizzie Barne of Carthage, Texas. [Obituary info provided by Sue Johnson.]
