Bio
Fern I. Hodgson, 86, of Lexington, Nebraska, went to be with her Lord Saturday, May 21, 2011, at Kearney Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. She was born April 4, 1925, at Eddyville, Nebraska, to Elmer L. and Florence Nancy (Booth) Bell. Fern attended school in Eddyville and graduated with the class of 1942. She then went on to Kearney State College for a semester and received her teaching certificate. She taught 4 years in country schools. She was united in marriage to Lowell Arbor Hodgson on May 29, 1946, at Eddyville, Nebraska. Three sons were blessed to this union: Lennis, David, and Steven. The couple later adopted a son, Richard, as a young boy and raised him as their own. Fern spent the majority of her time working on the farm and raising her boys. They raised crops and livestock. She lived on the farm for the majority of her life before moving into Lexington for the past three years living at the Plum Creek Wel-Life Assisted Living. Fern was a member of the Berean Bible Church since 1972, where she served in a variety of activities. Fern enjoyed spending time outdoors, working in her yard, garden and flowers. She also enjoyed embroidery and made several quilts. Fern loved spending time with her sons, especially her grandchildren. The last several months her goal was to walk a mile with her walker each day. Survivors include her four sons and their families: Lennis and wife Diane Hodgson of Kearney, Nebraska; their sons, Chad and wife Melissa Hodgson of Gretna, Nebraska, Matthew and wife Amy Hodgson of Minden, Nebraska. David and wife Marlene Hodgson of Lexington, Nebraska; their sons: Joel, Jared and Justin Hodgson of Lexington, Nebraska. Pastor Steven and his wife Jeannie Hodgson of Hutchinson, Kansas; their children, Charissa and husband Joe Sanders and their son, Ethan of Kansas City, Missouri; Caleb and wife Charity Hodgson, and their children, Micah, Jaron & Savannah of Palmyra, Pennsylvania, , Luke and wife Emily Hodgson and their sons, Caden & Trustin of Kansas City, Missouri and Asher Hodgson of Hutchinson, Kansas. Richard Hodgson of Pueblo, Colorado Also Arbor's sisters: Nola Hodgson of Aurora, Nebraska and Iona Shafer of Sumner, Nebraska Fern was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arbor in 2008, and four sisters, Mildred Kulhanek, Ione Kratzer, Vivian Bell and Doris Rhoadarmer Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.
