Bio

Wilma McComic (1913-2010) Wilma McComic, 96, passed away Feb. 14, 2010. She was born Sept. 4, 1913, the third of eight children. Her parents were Jessie James and Ardena Lee McDonald. She grew up on a farm near Blue Ridge and graduated from Blue Ridge High School. She attended East Texas State Teachers College and became the teacher at the one-room Sister Grove schoolhouse in Climax. At that time, in the early 1930s, a woman teacher could not be married. After a few years, she left her job as a teacher and became a farmer's wife when she married Ira McComic. They were married 58 years. She lived in Climax where she participated in the Climax Home Demonstration Club. She was a member of the Climax Church of Christ and a board member of the Van Winkle Cemetery Foundation. She was an Avon sales lady, a career that spanned more than 40 years. Wilma was an intelligent, kind and gentle person with a pleasant sense of humor. She loved visiting with her many friends and enjoyed meeting new ones. She never met a stranger and could always find a connection with anyone. She was an avid reader, a captivating conversationalist, a poet, a custodian of family history, an accurate weather forecaster, a lucky winner of contests, a keen and tolerant observer of human nature, and a deeply loving person who cared about her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ira McComic Sr.; two brothers, Harlan McDonald and Horace McDonald; and two sisters, Estelle Sellers and Jalaska Jones. She is survived by her son, Ira McComic Jr. and his wife Gretchen of Plano; a brother, Clyde McDonald and wife Eunice of Leonard; a sister, Jeannie Terry of Dallas, a sister, Ova Bauer and her husband, Carl of Dallas; a granddaughter, Jennifer Bray and her husband Jeff of Parker; a grandson, Matthew McComic of Dallas, a grandson, Andrew McComic and his wife Sally of McKinney, two great-grandsons, Cole and Brayden McComic; a great- granddaughter, Charlotte Belle Bray, and several nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, at the Climax Church of Christ followed by burial at the Van Winkle Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Tuesday to pay their respects and to sign the register book.
