Bio
Eugene Wilkin Young, passed away peacefully in Delta on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at age ninety-three. Born, youngest of eight, on June 23, 1917 in Abraham, Utah to Allen Leroy and Mary Halley Wilkin Young. Married Nayon Cahoon on December 20, 1939, and sealed in Salt Lake LDS Temple. Attended grade school in Abraham and high school in Ely, NV and Hinckley, UT, graduating Hinckley High in 1935. Eugene was a farmer, mechanic and Millard County Road Supervisor. Spent many years in Delta area and Ely. Devout member of LDS Church and served in Ely as member of High Council and Stake Presidency. Served as Bishop of Sutherland Ward, member of High Council, and Patriarch of Delta, Utah West Stake. Accepted every calling extended to him and then magnified it, using gifts he had been blessed with. Loved music and loved to play guitar and sing all the old songs he remembered from his younger days. In late 1950s, played in a dance band, and taught guitar to many students. He loved to get together with friends and play late into the night. Throughout his life, he could sing for hours and never sing the same song twice. Often when sitting alone, he could be heard singing to himself. Loved family and friends and was loved in return. Everyone who knew Eugene spoke highly of him. Preceded in death by his wife on January 19, 2002, parents, and siblings. Survived by children: David (Jeneal) Young, Delta; Maralee (Richard) Ohran, Provo; Halley Kay (Russ) Williams, Santa Clara; Danny (Lorna) Young, West Jordan; seventeen grandchildren; thrity-nine great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sutherland Chapel, 3120 Wst 2600 North, Sutherland. Friends may call at Nickle Mortuary, 190 South Center, Delta, on Thursday, May 19, 2011 from 7:00-8:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 9:30-10:40 a.m. Burial: Sutherland Cemetery.
