Son of John Carter and Annie Sims (buried with N.C. Carter) Published in the Athens Review June 6, 1940 Funeral services for William James Carter, 89, who died at the home of his son Bob Carter at Tolosa at 6:00 o'clock Saturday morning, were held Sunday afternoon with burial following at Moorehead cemetery. Services were conducted by Rev. J.D. Emerson of Independence. Burial was in charge of the Athens Funeral Home. Deceased had been a member of the Church of Christ for 54 years.Mr. Carter is survived by four sons, Bob of Tolosa, Newt of Pleasant Glade, Willis of LaRue, W.C. of Alice, Texas; and two daughters, Mrs. Matthew Henley of Walton and Mrs. Ada Howard of Gray's Prairie. His wife preceded him in death five years ago.Besides six children, he is survived by 43 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.Mr. Carter was born in Lewis county, Tennessee and was married to Narcissus Clementine Cooper on January 7, 1878. they moved to Texas in 1893, settling in Dallas county. They came to Kaufman county in 1900 and had lived in Kaufman and Henderson counties since.
