Birth year is calculated from the 1870 US Census for Rusk County, Texas. B. M. Steagall married Frances M. Maddux on November 18, 1851 in Marion County, Georgia. Sometime after their daughter Talula was born, they migrated to Texas where their other children were born. In the 1860 US Census, they are living in Rusk County, Texas. Children: Talula Steagall Mary S. Steagall Bonie O. Steagall John F. Steagall Frances died in 1866; Benson married Mariah A. McFarland on November 19, 1867 in Rusk County, Texas. On March 9, 1870 he married Ella J. Ross in Rusk County, Texas. In the 1870 US Census for Rusk County, Texas, Benson and Josephine are living with Mary S, age 15, Bonie O, age 10, and John F, age 6. In the 1880 US Census for Rusk County, Texas, Josie Steagall is married, but living with her widowed mother Jane Ross along with her sisters Susie and Lizzie Ross. After Benson died, Mrs. Joe Steagal married J. P. Heath. B. M. Steagall is buried with his daughter Mary S. Steagall, who preceded him in death.
