From the November 3, 2004, edition of The Quad-City Times (Davenport, IA) DAVENPORT -- Funeral services for Evelyn M. Volquardsen, of Davenport, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary Chapel in Davenport. Burial will follow at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time at the mortuary. Mrs. Volquardsen died on Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, at Iowa Masonic Nursing Home, Bettendorf. Evelyn Marie Coats was born Dec. 16, 1916, to Henry and Laura (Switzer) Coats in Hampton, Iowa. She was a member of the 1937 graduating class of Davenport High School and later married Chris H. Volquardsen on Sept. 26, 1946, in Peoria, Ill. He preceded her in death in June 1995. Mrs. Volquardsen was a housewife, homemaker and most of all Mom. She loved animals of all types and most especially enjoyed feeding the birds and other various wildlife in her backyard. Survivors include her daughter, Betty Volquardsen, of Madison, Wis.; her son, Chris Volquardsen, of Moline; a grandson, Sean Marquis; and her sister, Stephanie Marquis. She was preceded in death by her husband and both of her parents. Memorials may be made to the Animal Emergency Center of the Quad-Cities.
