Winford Lionel Jones 84, resident of Sterling, Bingham County, Idaho passed away on May 9, 2011 at Bingham Memorial Hospital. He was born 22 Nov. 1926 in Sterling, Idaho, son of John William and Florence Viola Hardy Jones. He graduated from the Aberdeen High School. Although he was drafted in November, 1944, he didn't leave until February 1945 during World War II. He completed basic training at Camp Fannon, Texas and was trained for the invasion of Japan. While enroute to Japan the war ended before he got there and was transferred to Hawaii where he served in the military police for over a year. In 1949 Winford received his call to serve in the Western Canadian mission for two years. It was there that he met his future wife Jo Ann Groesbeck. He returned from his mission in January 1951. They were married on 30 January 1953 in the Logan Temple and have been married 58 years. He served in several capacities in the Church. He continued farming until 1972 when he went into the seed business selling corn seed and founded the Jo-Se-Co, Inc. This he did for eight years. Later he entered into a computer software development business in Idaho Falls, Idaho using the name of Concepts Unlimited, Inc. After retiring in 1990 Winford worked in his garden and yard. He loved to fish and spent many happy hours on Henry's Lake and at the cabin in Island Park. Winford was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and three sisters. He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann, and four children: Stuart D. Jones, William Lance (Edie) Jones, Alan Charles (Deborah) Jones and Carol (JD) Farrens. They have eight grandchildren: Heather, Marshal, Misty, Cory, Matthew, Kacey, Nathan and Tia, and three great-grandchildren, a sister, La Verne Wood, and several nieces and nephews. . Burial will follow at the Aberdeen Cemetery.
