Born at Stromberg, near the City of Neutittschein, in the Province of Moravia, Austria. Son of John and Susan (Janek) Kubena. John Kubena, II was sixteen in 1873 when his parents boarded the steamship "Koeln" at Breman Germany, heading for America. They first landed in New Orleans, Louisiana. Taking a local vessel across the Gulf of Mexico, they arrived in Galveston, Texas. Four oxen pulled their belongings to Frelsburg, Colorado Co., Texas. The family later moved to Lavaca County, settling at Moulton. On November 20, 1882, John II married Mary Caka. They were the parents of eight known children. In 1889, at Hallettsville, Texas, John II received his naturalization papers becoming a citizen of the United States. [Biographical information provided by flgrl, contributor #46913650] Schulenburg Sticker, 20 Jan 1922 Joe Kleckar [sic] and Emil Gieptner of this city attended the funeral of their uncle John Kubena, Sr., who passed away last Wednesday and was buried Friday January 13th at Moulton.
