Information sent by E. E. Smith (#46947577) Their suggestion: ------------------------- The daughter of Harrison Hatchett (1793-1852) and Dicey James ((1791-), Pittsylvania County, Virginia native Mary “Polly” Hatchett married John Rape (1817- ) of St. Clair County, Illinois, in Sangamon County, Illinois, on June 26,1838. To this union were born two children—Hester Ann Rape (1839- ) and Lorenzo Dow Rape (1844-1898). Widowed, she married Virginia native Dr. Grafton Bannister Bays (1826- 1900) in 1847 whereupon they were the parents of Martha Ann Bays (1848-1998), James Harrison “Jim” Bays (1850-1909), Mary Elizabeth Bays Junell (1852-1934), John T. Bays (1856-1906), and George Bays (1857-). The Bays family migrated from Illinois to Texas by traveling down the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers and then taking the Red River to Cypress Bayou in Jefferson, Texas. In 1857, Dr. Bays purchased land in both the Antonio Lazarine and William B. Jordon surveys south of the present-day site of Pickton, Hopkins, Texas, but by 1865 he had purchased land near Black Jack Grove where Mary lived for the rest of her life.
