Obituary, The Oklahoman, January 16, 2006 May S. Lundy was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1915, at Albert, Oklahoma. Because she was a twin at a time when twins were rare, people came in wagons from miles around to see her and her twin sister, Fay. Determined to obtain an education for herself and her four daughters, May's mother insisted on moving the family to Weatherford, Oklahoma, where May graduated from Weatherford High School and then from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, along with her mother and all three sisters. She began her teaching career in Thomas, Oklahoma, in 1938, and married her longtime beau, Lewis Gordon Lundy, in 1941. After Gordon returned from Europe after World War II, the couple moved to Oklahoma City, and both began teaching careers with the Oklahoma City Public Schools. Mrs. Lundy's career spanned almost 50 years, and she retired from Oklahoma City Public Schools when she turned 70. Even after retirement from the public schools, both Mr. and Mrs. Lundy remained committed to helping children. They both continued to teach and help troubled youth at the Speck Home for Boys for several more years. Both Mr. and Mrs. Lundy were renowned for their teaching methods and their deeply felt concern for children. Through the years thousands of young people in Oklahoma City benefited from their care and instruction. After her husband's death, Mrs. Lundy sought out the India Shrine in Oklahoma City in order to help them with their ongoing mission of helping crippled and burned children receive the best possible medical attention. As part of her philanthropic effort toward children, Mrs. Lundy donated two fully equipped vans to the Shriners for use in transporting children to the Shriners' Hospitals in Galveston and Shreveport. Memorial contributions can be made to the Hospital Transportation Fund, India Shrine, Oklahoma City. Mrs. Lundy is survived by a niece, Karin Dowdy, of McKinney, Texas; a grandnephew, Austin Dowdy, of Grover Beach, California; and a nephew, Glenn Agan, of Edmond, Oklahoma. Preceding her in death were her husband, Gordon, both her parents and all three of her sisters. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Graveside services will follow at 1 p.m., at Rose Hill Burial Park.
