Military History - Civil War - Confederate William C. is the son of Moses and Meriah Calmust Hargist Cleeton. He entered the Confederate Army when 17 years old, following in the footsteps of his 3 older brothers. His son, Cottie remembers his father singing a song about Jeff Davis and Brave Beauregard, a Confederate General. W. C. Cleeton was first in Higbee, apparently in the 1880s, engaged in the livery business, but remained only a short time. He returned to the farm until 1896, when he returned to Higbee to engage in the drug business, purchasing the store of Minor and Bradley, which he remained in until ca 1920, when his son Cottie succeeded him. W. C. Cleeton built the Gem theatre in Higbee. Son of Moses Cleeton & Mariah C Hargis Suggested edit: MO death cert. #26929. Contributor: Alberta Knotts (47361965)
