Bio

William H. Longan News has been received in Sedalia of the death recently at Randall, Texas, of William H. Longan, a resident of Pettis county in the days of its early development. He was 88 years old. The funeral and burial was at Randall. For twenty years, or more, Mr. and Mrs. Longan had resided at Orlando, Fla., and when his condition became serious the latter part of April he was taken to Randall to the home of a foster-son, Hugh Longan, where he died. The Hugh Longan referred to grew to manhood in their home while they were residents of Missouri. Mr. Longan was a son of the late Rev. G.W. Longan, a pioneer preacher of the Christian church, who delivered the first sermon ever given in Sedalia by a minister of that denomination. He was an organizer of the First Christian church here and was its first pastor in the year 861. In the ealry seventies Mr. W.H. Longan was married to Miss Kate Agee, of Dresden, Mo., daughter of William G. Agee, an early settler of Pettis county. The widow and two sisters, Mrs. Mollie Stone and Mrs. Emma Upton, the latter two of Houstonia, survives as does like-wise numerous relatives and friends in Pettis county. He was a cousin of Attorney George W. Longan of Sedalia. During his long and useful life Mr. Longan was a member of the Christian church.
