Veda Madelin (Brown) Miller was born July 15, 1921, in Nodaway County, Missouri the daughter of Byron Brown and Eva Shelman Brown. She grew up and attended school in Lenox. She met C. Marvin Miller at a picture show in Lenox, and the couple was united in marriage on June 1, 1939, at the United Presbyterian Church in Lenox. They farmed southwest of Lenox until Marvin answered the call to serve his country on June 21, 1944. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. After his discharge in February of 1946, the couple returned to the Lenox area where they farmed until 1950, when they purchased a farm near Tingley, raising their three children. In 1966, the couple returned to Lenox. In 1967, Veda and Marvin purchased a camper and they enjoyed traveling around the country visiting relatives and making new friends. This was something they enjoyed together until the early 1990's. On October 8, 2003, Marvin passed away. Veda later moved to Winterset live with her daughter Rita and husband Sydney Sickels. She entered the Winterset Care Center North on October 13, 2005. While living in Lenox, Veda worked as a custodian at the Lenox High School along with her husband. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and sister. Her family was the greatest joy in her life. She also had a passion for quilting and flower gardening. She was a member of the Lenox Christian Church and a member of the Lenox American Legion Auxiliary, and various quilting clubs. Left to cherish Veda's memory are her three children Rita Sickels and husband Sydney of Winterset; Marie Sickels of Villisca; and Dennis Miller and wife Mary Lynn of Ankeny; a brother Charles Brown and wife Pearl of Lenox; a sister, Annabel Jones and husband Robert of Des Moines; eight grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Preceding Veda in death are her parents Bryon and Eva Brown; her husband C. Marvin Miller; two sisters, Lorraine and Marcella; a brother Virgil; a son Allen at infancy; a grandson Bret Sickels and a great-granddaughter Amanda. May God grant comfort and strength to those who mourn Veda's passing.
