Bio

Son of: Fleming Carroll 1806-1865 Margaret Peggy Welch 1815-1851? Several sources have Margaret as Welsh with a death date of 1860 or 1861. Samuel Woodward Carroll, along with his brothers Robert C Carroll and Flemming B Carroll, served as a Pvt in Co. F of the 5th Virginia Infantry. Flemming B was wounded at 2nd Manassas and later died in battle at Chancellorsville on 3 May 1863. Samuel married Laura A Shirk in April of 1870, they had 11 children. Samuel Woodward Carroll is buried in Salem Cemetery in Moberly, Randolph, Missouri. After vandalism to the cemetery, the headstone was moved to the Higbee Cemetery, Higbee, Randolph, Missouri, and only the base stone and a metal marker remain by his grave at the Salem Cemetery. Samuel's death certificate lists his father as William Carroll, but all of my research (including census and other genealogy sources) has his father as Fleming Carroll. If anyone has evidence to the contrary, please contact me via email. Samuel's son, Samuel Carroll, Jr, was murdered in Springfield, Illinois. He was born in 1879 and died in April 1829. If anyone knows of his burial place, please contact me via email. Samuel had a son, Frank Carroll, who left Missouri in 1914 and was never heard from by the family again. He was born in 1882. If anyone has information about Frank Carroll, such as death or where buried, please contact me via email.
