James Edward Shelton was born in 1866, Homer, Claiborne Parish, Louisiana to Zebedee Shelton and wife Sarah A. Montgomery, married 11-30-1865. In 1862,during the Civil War Zebedee served in the Confederate Army with the 10th Regiment, Missouri Infantry, Co K . They were stationed at Camp Mulberry about 30 miles east of Ft. Smith, Arkansas. Zebedee was born in Miller County, Missouri in 1842, his parents were Anna E Greenup and David Shelton, married 04-15-1832, Cole County, Missouri. David was born 1807, Grainger County, Tennessee. David was the 2nd son of John Jr Shelton & Elizabeth Smith, married 03-19-1800, Grainger County Tennessee. They came to Cole County, Missouri before 1830 with most of their children. James Edward Shelton's siblings were Mary Frances Shelton, William Dee Shelton, Adam Josiah Shelton, Hugh Montgomery Shelton & David Walter Shelton. On 10-15-1899, James at the age of 33 married Dorcas Annie Long. James & Annie's children were James Ernest Shelton, Mina Lee Shelton, John Montgomery Shelton, Morris Ray Shelton & Eddie Eugenia "Midge" Shelton Alpaugh.
