Bio

wife of Curly H. Miller Homemaker Mrs. C.H. "Curly" Miller, 23, died in Dallas on July 4th while trying to rescue two children. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Olney officiated by Rev. W.H. Townsend, the pastor. Mrs. Miller was united in marriage to Mr. Miller in 1935. There were no children born to this union. Survivors: husband; parents of Lisbon, Dallas County, two sisters; one brother. Deceased drowned in the muddy waters of the Trinity River three miles north of Dallas. The two children, Catherine Borgeson, 7, and Luther Borgeson, 5, were dragged from the swirling current by their father, who with Mrs. Borgeson and Mrs. Miller went to their rescue when the children stepped off into a deep hole while wading. Mrs. Borgeson, sister of the victim, grabbed Mrs. Miller by the hair, managed to keep her aloft for several minutes while screaming for help, but finally was forced to let her sister go in order to save herself. The body was swept 400 yards downstream and was recovered by Mr. Borgeson and Carroll White, 18, of Winters. Artificial respiration was applied for 15 minutes, but she failed to revive. She had been in the water for 30 minutes. The drowning was witnessed by two other sisters, and a brother, who also were wading. They were Louise Clayborn, 13, Virgil Clayborn, 11 and Billy Jean Clayborn, 7, who live at Lisbon. Half-hysterical, Mrs. Borgeson and the two children were taken to Dallas hospitals for treatment from shock. The son, Luther, was revived by his mother, while his father and Young White recovered Mrs. Miller's body.
