Bio

Berna was born in Kentucky, one of the nine children of James L Crim and Mary J Barnes. Her parents moved the family to Dallas and Collin County Texas. Berna marries twice in Ardmore, Carter County OK, both times to police officers, and spends the rest of her life in Ardmore. Her first marriage is to John W Caudle 14 Sep 1902. They have one son Robert Stokly Caudle. Her first husband is elected Ardmore city tax Assessor Collector, then dies later that year of the "white plague" at age 35 on 24 December 1907. Berna marries almost exactly one year later for the second time to Fred Jesse Emerson, on 23 December 1908. She is reported in the local newspaper as starting the police officer wives' tradition of hosting the officers for a monthly dinner in the host and hostess' home. Berna's only son Robert predeceases her and is buried in the same family plot as Berna and her 2nd husband Emerson. Her first husbandCaudle is also buried in Rose Hill Cemetery.
