Wallace A. "Wally" Johnson, of Grand Island, NE., died Saturday, April 16, 2011, at Tiffany Square in Grand Island, NE. Wally was born Jan. 7, 1929, in Grand Island, NE., to Albert and Ruth (Whitt) Johnson. On March 7, 1950, he married Kathryn Harder. Survivors are: wife, Kathryn Johnson of Grand Island, NE.; sons, Rick Johnson of Morgan Hill, CA. and Randy Johnson of Grand Island, NE.; sister, Betty Kelly of Grand Island, NE.; brother and sister-in-law, Rodney and Colleen Johnson of Grand Island, NE. and a host of relatives and friends. Wally was preceded in death by: parents and infant brother, Wayne Johnson. In 1947, Wally graduated from Grand Island (NE.) Senior High School. After being drafted in March of 1952, he was stationed at Fort Monmouth, N.J. In February 1953, he served in Korea with the Seventh Signal Company. He was discharged in February 1954 and transferred to the Army Reserves to complete eight years of service under the Universal Military Training and Service Act. Wally ran a service station for Standard Oil in Columbus, NE. upon his return from the military. In 1954, he began a career with National Cash Register, where he worked for 36 years until retirement in 1991. Wally enjoyed his family, friends, traveling, casinos, working in the yard and flower beds and keeping up the home and especially enjoyed the great neighbors he had. Feeding his furry and feathered friends was also a joy. He was also an avid Nebraska Huskers fan. Interment was in The Grand Island City Cemetery, Grand Island, NE.
