Was a Baptist minister for many years, also taught school.Epps Cemetery was set aside by him on his farm as a cemetery. He also was a veteran of the Civil War.
Born in Rutherford, North Carolina, USA on 1839 to Eli Epps and Rebecca Ann Miller. Newton Carter married Margaret McCadden Chandler September 20, 1860 and had 10 children Newton Carter Epps was a Baptist Minister for a number of years He was a Civil War veteran serving in Company "A" of the 24 Regiment of the Missouri Infantry Volunteers. Entered service on the 5th day of August 1861 and was discharged in St. Louis, Missouri on the 14th day of October 1864. Burial: May 30, 1917 Epps Cemetery Pomona, Howell County, Missouri.
