Frances M. (Specht) Hintz, age 90 of Coleridge, Nebraska died on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at the Park View Haven Nursing Home in Coleridge. Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ in Coleridge with the Rev. Gary Kimm officiating. Burial will be in the Coleridge City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 3-8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home in Coleridge. Pallbearers will be Jim Specht, Bradley Specht, Mike Fiscus, Kevin Walker, Dan Specht, and Chris Specht. Frances Mae Hintz was born on May 20, 1920 on a farm north of Coleridge, Nebraska, to Henry and Nina (Nissen) Specht. She graduated from Coleridge High School in 1938, and earned a B.A. Degree in Teacher Education from Wayne State College, Wayne, Nebraska. On May 17, 1973, she was united in marriage to Elmer Hintz in Tyndall, South Dakota. Frances began her 30 year teaching career at Green Valley School near Belden, Nebraska before teaching in Obert, NE and 22 years in the Hartington Public School in Hartington, NE. Frances enjoyed being a class room teacher, directing many student extra-curricular activities, including class plays and pep club activities. Frances received the Nebraska Outstanding Teacher Award for her outstanding dedication to education and students. During her teaching career Frances also opened a style shop of ladies and children's wear in Coleridge during the fall of 1950. Her favorite past-times were traveling during the summer months, vacationing and fishing in Minnesota and Canada with family. Frances was very active in many community organizations including the Order of the Eastern Star, Congregational Church Ladies Circle and volunteered as chair and co-chair of the Coleridge Memorial Day Dinner for 18 years. She also served as a Sunday School teacher for 50 years at her church. Frances was a life-time member of the Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ in Coleridge. Following retirement from education in 1985, Frances continued to volunteer at a children's day-care and at the Park View Haven activities department. Frances is survived by relatives including the families of Patsy Stewart of Bremerton, WA; Beverly Specht of Coleridge, NE; and Dean and Judy Specht of Yankton, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Nina Specht; her husband Elmer Hintz on November 30, 1987; and cousin Jim Specht on October 28, 1993.
