Bill was born in Breckenridge to Flora Kendrick and Emmitt Stewart. He married Billy Lavonne Gilbert in Breckenridge in 1948. Mr. Stewart served his country during World War II as a member of the Merchant Marines, then with the U.S. Army. He was a used car dealer in Breckenridge during the early 50's and then moved to Fort Worth and worked for Westfault Olds and Cadillac and in 1955 he opened University Volkswagen, which later became the Autobahn dealership. In 1956, Billy moved to Odessa and opened Stewart's Imported Motors and he was the only Volkwagen dealer in West Texas. In 1968, he sold the dealership and moved to Del Rio, where he opened and managed the Amistad Lodge near Lake Amistad. He then returned to the wholesale business of used cars. He retired to Breckenridge after the death of his wife and then moved to Weatherford only to return to Breckenridge in 2008. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, and a 60 year member of the Elks Lodge and a member of the VFW. He is survived by his daughter, Tana Campbell and husband, Edward of Weatherford; son, Tommy Gean Stewart and wife Laura of Fort Worth, sister, Shirley Parrott of Breckenridge; brother, Earl Stewart of Branson, Missouri; five grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
