F. M."Fud"Bonkiewicz 1920-2004 F. M."Fud" Bonkiewicz, 83, Lincoln and a longtime Cheyenne County resident, died Friday, April 16, 2004 at the St. Anthonys Unit, Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln. A mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, April 21 at 10 a.m. at the St. Patricks Catholic Church Parish Center in Sidney with Fathers Jim Novakowski and Steve Deaver officiating. A Christian wake service will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Parish Center. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.Memorials have been established to the American Red Cross or the St. Anthonys Alzheimers Unit, Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln. Friends may call at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Florian Marion"Fud"Bonkiewicz, the son of Joseph Stanley, Sr. and Helen Frances(Garbacz)Bonkiewicz, was born Nov. 18, 1920 in Omaha. He attended country school near the family farm and later graduated from Arcadia High School in 1937. He moved with his family to Cheyenne County in 1938. Fud then attended Parks Business College in Denver, Colo. On September 3, 1949, Fud was united in marriage to Eileen Isabelle Cortney in Sidney. They made their home on a farm east of Sidney. After his wife?s death in 1996, Fud continued to farm until moving to the Lincoln area in 2000 due to failing health. Fud was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Patricks Catholic Church, served as a Eucharistic minister at St. Patricks Catholic Church and was a member of the Toastmasters Club in his earlier years. Survivors include his sons, Bill Bonkiewicz and wife Joan of Lincoln and Bob Bonkiewicz and wife LeAnn of Excelsior, Minn.; daughters, Pat Taylor and husband Kent of Birmingham, Ala., Reta Waldrop and husband Stan of Kent, Wash. and Kay Briggs of Ouray, Colo.; brother, Gene Bonkiewicz of Greeley, Colo.; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother and one grandson. Sidney Telegraph
