Bio

Davenport - Graveside services for John D. "Jack" Nienaber, Davenport, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Moline American Legion Post 246 will conduct military services at the burial. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Mr. Nienaber died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at his residence. Born March 28, 1915, in Wilton, Iowa, he was a son of Albert and Mabel Nienaber. He married Patricia Ann Lee on Jan. 26, 1946, in Davenport. She preceded him in death on May 6, 1984. John served with the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II. He was employed as an iron worker for 55 years through the International Association of Iron Workers, Local 111, Rock Island. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. John was an avid hunter and fisherman. Memorials may be made to the family. Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Kip and Teri Nienaber, Portland, Ore., Mark and Julia Nienaber, Davenport, and John and Susan Nienaber Jr., Riverdale, Iowa; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Mike Farley and Libby Nienaber, both of Davenport, and Maggie and Harvey Sothmann, Cordova, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mildred Schroeder, Davenport. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Nienaber. May they rest in peace. (Quad-City Times, Jan. 15, 2002)
