Bio
Everett Lee Bean was born December 6, 1916, near Little Sioux, Iowa to parents Wesley and Tillie (Anderson) Bean. He lived his entire life within two miles of where he was born. He attended Murray Hill Country School and graduated from Little Sioux High School. Everett married Helen Pippitt on May 20, 1939, at the Little Brown Church in the Vale near Nashua, Iowa. Their wedding gift to each other was a double harness, for their team of horses. They were married 47 years before Helen died in August of 1986. Everett married Rita Young Wohlers on June 1, 1993, at his home near Little Sioux, Iowa. Everett enjoyed working the land his entire life. He started farming with horses and he planted his last crop with a computerized tractor. He was known to be the best dry land farmer in the area. Everett was an accomplished carpenter and mechanic, and he had a knack of being able to fix anything. Unknowingly he became a great teacher just because of how he lived his life. He had a strong connection to nature, loved animals, and rescued many dogs and cats. He was also known for his dry wit and spontaneous bits of humor. Everett died on June 29, 2007, at his home in the Loess Hills east of Little Sioux, Iowa at the age of 90 years, six months, and 23 days. Everett was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Helen; brother, Estal Bean; and sister Lena Pippitt. He is survived by his wife Rita Bean of Little Sioux, Iowa; three children, Larry Bean of Palm Bay, Florida, Janice and her husband Bud Callahan of Pleasant Dale, Nebraska and Nick Bean of Little Sioux, Iowa; step children, Mike Wohlers and his wife Sherry of Pisgah, Iowa, Delia and her husband Harold Bertelsen and Linda and her husband Don MacMillan all of Logan, Iowa; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; two sisters, Vera Jones of Bella Vista, Arkansas and Esta and her husband Ed McDaniel of Little Sioux, Iowa and many other relatives and friends.
