(Tulsa World) ---------------- Ruth Emmajane Johnson Hammontree McBride passed away on March 23, 2011 at the age of 84 at the Homestead of Owasso. She was the fifth child of Homer Lee and Jessie D. (Mackey) Johnson born on June 18, 1926 at Boise City, OK. As a small child, Ruth looked forward to the summers when her father would take the family to Creede, Colorado. When she was ten, she lost her mother due to childbirth, and as a result completed her education in boarding schools. Following high school, she attended college at Canyon, Texas for two years. In August of 1949, Ruth married William Dale Hammontree, and to this union, two children Jane and James H. were born. They made their home in the Keyes – Boise City area. In 1961, Dale became ill, and Ruth kept busy taking care of two children and nursing Dale. He passed away in 1964. In March of 1967, Ruth and Robert Connelly McBride were married and a child ML McBride was born into the family as well as Connelly's three sons Roger, Jim and Larry. The family moved to the Plainview community where Connelly farmed and ran Black Angus cattle. In 1985, Connelly became ill and passed away. Throughout the years Ruth enjoyed her activities with the garden club and loved her plants, both inside and out. Because of her early experiences in Creede, CO, she had a great love for the mountains and in later years, Estes Park CO where she owned a cabin and spent many happy times there. Never one to not be doing something, Ruth opened a ceramic shop in Keyes and also did embroidery. In 1999, Ruth moved to the Tulsa area to be closer to her children, first residing at the Owasso Baptist Village and later the Homestead of Owasso. Ruth is survived by her children Jane Hammontree, James H. Hammontree and wife Bonita and ML McBride. Also surviving are a sister Virginia Johnson and a sister in law Maxine Johnson.
