AZLE - Simon P. Snider, 100, a retired dairy deliveryman, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, at an Arlington nursing center. Funeral: 2 p.m. Friday at Ash Creek Baptist Church. Masonic graveside service: Ash Creek Cemetery, Azle. Visitation: 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Pallbearers: Phillip Freeman, Ernie Tullis, Sammy Hutton, Travis Hunt, Timothy Cutshall and Britt Walls. Memorials: Texas Masonic Retirement Center, 1501 W. Division, Arlington, Texas 76012; or Building Fund, Ash Creek Baptist Church, 301 S. Stewart St., Azle, Texas 76020. Mr. Snider was born July 27, 1900, in Center Mills, Parker County. At the age of 23, he and his brother-in-law, John Page, drove to Torrance, Calif., in a Model T Ford. The trip took seven days and nights and the highway only went as far as Mineral Wells and from there on it was mostly a dirt trail. Mr. Snider was affiliated with the Azle Masonic Lodge #601 A.F. & A.M.; was a past patron of Azle Chapter #899; Order of the Eastern Star; and was a member of Ash Creek Baptist Church. He was mayor of Newark in 1975-1976 and operated a milk delivery route for Metzger Milk Co. in Tarrant and Parker counties until he retired. After retirement, he worked on the Scalin Ranch until the age of 90. Mr. Snider was preceded in death by his wives, Laura Howard Snider and Violet Freeman Snider. Survivors: Sons and daughters-in-law, Simon A. and Toni Snider of Zephyr Hills, Fla., and Joe and Martha Freeman of Fort Worth; daughter and son-in-law, Anna Laura Snider Cutshall and husband, Harry, of Azle; sisters, Winnie Powell of San Angelo and Floy B. Browder of Weatherford; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
