Joseph Karfka, 70, a resident of Valparaiso Community for 30 years, passed away at this home Saturday afternoon, March 26. He was born in Moravia (Bohemia, Czechoslovakia), February 1, 1868 and came to American with his parents in 1880 settling at Wahoo, He was married to Mary Jasa at Wahoo, February 11, 1892 and to this union ten children were born. Surviving are his wife Mary, five daughter, and four sons, Mrs. Frank Johnson, Mrs. Alex Gruenimier and Agnes Krafka, all of Lincoln. Mrs. Oscar Johnson, Anton, John and Ted of Valparaiso. Alice and Emil at Home; one sister, Mrs. Anton Sabatka of Weston, one brother, John of Valparaiso and nineteen grand children. One son died in infancy. Mr. Krafka suffered a stroke about a year ago and it became necessary later to amputate one leg, from which he never recovered. He became much worse two weeks ago, suffering intensely. He Bore his pain with patience and courage until the end came. Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at one o'clock at the home and at two at the Valparaiso Methodist Church, Rev. Alex Aman Officiating. Music was furnished by a quartet, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Edwards, Mrs. H. L. Mosgrove an Earl Worsham with Mrs. Worsham at the piano. Pallbearers were: E.J. Haynes, Clarence Linch, Wm. Hyatt, George Potter, Frank Kratochyil and Will Woodward. burial was in the Valparaiso Cemetery. * Wahoo Democrat, Page 16; March 31, 1938 Jeffrey J. Woita, Contributor
