Childress – Dr. W. G. Johnson died today at his home Monday, May 17, 1948. He was 72 years old. He was born at Murray, Ky., March 29, 1876, and graduated from the School of Medicine of the University of Tennessee in 1900. He took a post graduate course at the University of Chicago. Dr. Johnson married Mary Bell Jacobs of Murfreesboro, Tenn, November 21, 1900. He practiced medicine at Murray, Ky., from 1900 until 1918 when he moved to Childress. Dr. Johnson was local eye, ear, nose and throat specialist for the Fort Worth and Denver RWY for several years and resigned but was reappointed upon the death of Dr. F. A. White a few months ago. Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Mrs. M. M. Rucker of Cookville, Tenn., and Mrs. R. W. Payne of Payne, Tenn.; two sons, W. G. and Dallas, both of Childress; four grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter; one brother, D. C. H. Johnson of Paris, Tenn.; and one sister, Mrs. P. F. Waterfield of Murray. The body will lie in state at the family residence, 310 Third Street, Northeast until funeral time and the casket will not be opened at the church. ------ Childress Pioneer Dies CHILDRESS, May 17 (AP) - Dr. W.G. Johnson, who had practiced medicine here since 1918, and J.F. Carter, Childress county farmer and rancher for 50 years, died today. Funeral services for Johnson will be held tomorrow morning and Carter Wednesday morning.
