Bio
Diane K. Knapp, age 63 years of Fremont, NE died Monday, March 14, 2011 at her home in Fremont. She was born March 21, 1947, the first day of spring, in Fremont to Verne and LaVonne (Roumph) LeGrande of Cedar Bluffs, NE. She attended District 25 grade school K-8th grade and was the last student to graduate from this school prior to its closing. She attended and graduated from Cedar Bluffs High School. Diane was active in band, volleyball, vocal music and most any extracurricular activity available to female students at that time. After graduation Diane worked at the Lincoln Police Department. She moved to Fremont in 1968. Diane married Steven Whelchel and 2 children were born of this union. They divorced and she later married Paul Knapp August 25, 1974 in Fremont. They were married for 36 years and had a wonderful life together. Diane spent most of her employment years working for the phone company, Northwestern Bell, US West and Qwest as the names changed. After 32 years there she retired but couldn't stay away from work so she dispatched Police, Fire and Rescue for the Fremont Police Department from 2002 to 2009. She was then a Customer Service Representative for Michelle Mathison Insurance Agency until she could no longer work due to illness. Diane was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont. She was active in the church singing in the choir and holding many offices throughout the years. She was then on the Christian Care Vision Team and was honored that she was asked to be a member of this team. Survivors include: husband, Paul; daughter - Angela Knapp and special friend, Mike Miles of Fremont; son - Lance and wife Catherine Knapp of Lincoln; brothers - Bruce and wife Nina LeGrande of Omaha; and Douglas and wife Jana LeGrande of Maricopa, AZ; grandchildren – Samantha and husband AJ Duvall and Bryan Hill and special friend Emilia Love and Madelyne Knapp; great grandchildren – William Duvall Jr. and Savannah Duvall; several nephews and nieces and many cousins. She was preceded in death by: parents; parents-in-law - Alvin and Louise Knapp and brother – Ronald LeGrande. Funeral service will be 10:30 A.M., Friday, March 18, 2011 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont. The Rev. Timothy Gierke and the Rev. Timothy Anderson will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday, March 17, 2011 at GOOD SHEPHERD LUTHERAN CHURCH 12-8 P.M. and one hour prior to the service Friday, also at the church. Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery, Fremont. Memorials may be directed to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Dodge County Humane Society and Fremont Police Department Shop with a Cop.
