Murray Weyand, 87, of Lincoln, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 10, 2011. Murray was born on February 4, 1924 at Bellwood, Neb. to Irving H. Weyand and Orilla Peck Weyand. He lived in the Bellwood area most of his life. He was active in all sports, band and class plays at Bellwood High School where he graduated as class salutatorian in 1941. He farmed with his brothers until his retirement. After retiring, he met the love of his life, Bertha Gergen Bauman and they were married in 1993. They made their home in Lincoln, where he resided until his death. Murray was a generous man with a big smile and a love for life. He enjoyed dancing, playing the tuba in a local band, word puzzles, card games, gardening and telling jokes and stories. He was a member of member of North American Martyrs Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife Bertha, and brother, Loy of Lincoln, as well as three nieces: Sheryl Hansen of Norfolk, Neb, Kaye Lidolph of Roca, Neb., and Joan Luebbert of Westlake Village, Calif.; and six step-children: Patricia Halsted, Linda Hill, Theresa Peppard and Kathleen Barkmeier of Lincoln, Bill Bauman of Englewood, Colo., and Lois Collins of Littleton, Colo. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Wayne and sister Lois Hagerman Hedlund. Visitation will be Tuesday 9-9 with the family present from 5-7 p.m., and Wednesday 10-11 a.m. at church. Rosary will be Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 7 p.m. @ Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at North American Martyrs Catholic Church and burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Officiate will be Father Brian Connor. Memorials to American Heart Association or National Adult Protective Services Association. Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.
